Apathy

Today, Ryan and I walked around Boston, chatting about the project and other things.  One of the things that kept coming up was the difficulties we face with apathy about things that we WANT to care about.  So I wrote this poem. I also took a bunch of cool pictures which I’m excited to show you! Maybe I’ll do a little extra this week, but for now, please enjoy the poem!

I hope to have my HD camera up and running soon… but for now this will suffice!

Here are the words:

What’s the point?
What’s the point in finding the path untraveled
If you’re in a parking lot?

When the work runs so late you watch the sun set through the window?
Let it go.
When the clock strikes 1 and you haven’t written that song?
Don’t worry
There’s always tomorrow.
Right?

It was there when the teacher said to stand against the wall.
It was there when I walked across that stage that day.

Saran wrap:
They laid on.
At first it was thin;
Invisible;
Protecting;
But the layers didn’t stop.
They made a plastic shield.

And it seems so easy,
Easy,
Easy,
And it opens its arms and you
Forget

They put you in a crib to keep you safe and sound,
Nestled in, you don’t roll out of bed,
But won’t a couple of bumps and bruises will make you
Care?

If you’re stuck playing defense you’re always stuck defending
And until you move forward you won’t be able to strike.

They say to go with the flow and I’ve tried that,
But if you don’t make ripples and don’t splash around
You sink to the bottom
And you don’t come back up

It’s so easy,
Easy,
Easy,
And it closes its arms and you
Regret

But if I can care about you
I can care.
